How to reach us, and what we can and cannot help with.

Get in touch

The best way to reach us is by email:

hello@ukcostofliving.org

We read everything that comes in and aim to reply within a few working days. We are a small operation, so response times vary depending on how much is going on.

Reporting a data error

This is the most useful thing you can contact us about. If a figure on the site looks wrong — a rent average, a council tax band, a loan amount — please tell us.

It helps enormously if you can include:

We check reported errors against our sources and correct them if they hold up. Where a correction changes a published figure materially, we note it on the methodology page.

Press and media

If you are writing about UK cost of living and want to reference our figures, please get in touch and we will point you to the underlying sources so you can cite those directly. We are happy for our tools to be referenced with a link.

What we cannot help with

We are not financial advisers and cannot give advice on your personal circumstances. That includes questions about which city you should move to, whether you can afford a particular rent, how to manage debt, or what to do about your own council tax bill.

For those questions, free and impartial help is available from MoneyHelper (government-backed) and Citizens Advice. If you are struggling with debt specifically, StepChange offers free debt advice.

We also cannot help with queries about your individual council tax account, your student finance application, or your tenancy. Those need to go to your local authority, Student Finance England, or your landlord respectively.

Privacy

If you email us, we hold your message and email address only for as long as it takes to deal with your query. We do not add you to any mailing list and we do not pass your details to anyone. See our privacy policy for more.
